What was the point of having Mia Goth play the old lady?

Normally, when you have a young actor playing an old character, there's a specific reason for it, such as the actor playing the same character at different ages, like various actors in Back to the Future Part II did for example. Otherwise, you'd normally just hire an old actor to play an old character.

In the case of this movie, we get the undesirable young-actor-in-fake-looking-old-age-makeup-with-a-fake-sounding-old-age-voice effect, in exchange for what?

Cause she's playing the same character at a different age in his next film.

She's playing the old lady at a different age in the next movie? Why would the old lady character look like Mia Goth in the first place? Is she supposed to be the old lady's granddaughter or something? If not, it still doesn't make any sense.

Yup, next movie is set during WWII or whatever, she was a young girl. There was an aftercredits teaser. Was taken down from youtube; maybe someone put it back up.

There's no reason for that. Just a cinematic (and acting) flourish. I don't think it's particularly unusual, or worth thinking too much about it.

Movie has a few flaws; that casting decision isn't one of them in my opinion.

it's simply to show how versatile an actress she is, that's all. I admit, I never even remotely thought it was her until I watched the making of doc about the film, and finding out she played that character---the older woman--was hquite a surprise.

They do it as a showcase for the actor. It's flaunting their skillset basically.

Tilda Swinton did similar in Suspiria (2018) where she played a normal role as the academy teacher plus an additional role as an old Man.

James McAvoy got lots of praise for his performance in Split (2016) due to playing many different personality types.

It was basically for Mia Goth to flex and to nab some critical praise for the film of the back of her performance.

McAvoy was playing the same guy with different personalities though, so it had to be his face, not another 70 years older woman.

she is the old lady in the prequel, so it works on some level.
