Ending (Spoilers)
What was the meaning behind that bizarre ending?

Most of it is baked into the dialogue. Just rewatch and pay closer attention to the words, then the metaphors from the last sequence will seem obvious.

shareI think Asher was “reborn” as their child in some sort of bizarre reincarnation. It seems some parts of Whitney‘s labour coincided with things Asher was experiencing in the final episode, and when he shot into space is when the baby was born. That’s my take on it anyway. Regardless, anything Nathan is involved in is a definite watch for me. This went beyond awkward and was unsettling at times to watch. Lol.
I also thought he was going to be a starbaby like at the end of 2001.
We were also thinking the whole last episode was a dream/nightmare after whitney actually did leave him after watching that cut of the show where she says her true feelings about asher and their relationship. His world ended and his nightmare began.
I thought this show was a bore but the final episode was incredible. I only stuck it to the ending because Christopher Nolan told me to.
I choose to interpret the ending literally. Dougie cursed Asher, his gravity is reversed, and no one believes him, causing him to die.
Very well shot stunts. Nathan Fielder really demonstrating his directing chops here.
