How did they do the tooth-bashing scene?

Anyone know how they achieved the realism of the scene where the Eldest bashes her tooth in? Did she fake the impact? Blood thrown onto the mirror from off screen? Hidden cuts?

I'm thinking that the weight was not an actual 'weight.' It could have been a lightweight prop that she pretended had heft, and simulated the hit to make it look like the weight impacted her mouth.

MAybe there was even some kind of blood packet/spatterer in the part near the mouth, and she could squeeze the handle to release it.

Uruseiranma is on to something. It seemed to me that the weight was actually made of rubber and hollow. So I imagine they filled it with fake blood, made a little hole in one of the sides and when she hits herself with it the fake blood comes squirting out of the other side onto the mirror.

Very easy but oh so effective. I'm used to stuff like that but it still had me wincing.

Me too, and I'm not squeamish. Not in Irreversible's league, but certainly uncomfortable.

I am not sure but it was so realistic.

It was also so abrupt how she started whaling on her face like that. I've seen some pretty graphic stuff but that scene really got to me. Brutal. Love it.

I was thinking perhaps CGI, like the fire extinguisher scene in Irreversible? However it was done, it was very clever, and very graphic!

It's possible it was real. What with the sex scenes maybe being real and that, and some of the other stuff, with the language, I thought maybe that wasn't fake at all. The whole movie is about how strange reality can be, so maybe it would fit if that was actually her doing that. On another level, I mean....

Yes, of course. Having sex is the same as bashing your tooth in. Most dedicated actors would go that far.

Are you nuts? Seriously? How is having sex the SAME as bashing your tooth in? Or multiple, teeth? First, it happens in a completely different area, if you catch my drift, and second it is painful vs pleasure.

I think they filmed the scene backwards with her holding it to her mouth, and moving it away quickly. That, played backwards would make it seem like she's hitting herself.

Although a lot of the time you see evidence of this, especially with the way hair flows backwards, but still very possible considering the realism.

have you seen french connection? the train collision scene?
it was also played backwards.

there are so many CGI now everywhere. you wouldn't believe how much they use.
for even normal tv shows, they use heavy CGI. for most backgrounds (outside shots), they use CGI. because you can never shoot anything with that many people at the background. so there you go.
