It's really sad...


...to think that even if the children did escape, they'd probably be too f-cked up to function in the outside world. I mean, they've been told it's a bizarrely dangerous place where cats are ready to maul you, so they'd be afraid all the time; they've been told wrong meanings for many words, so they'd have trouble properly communicating; and they have no real concept of sex or incest, so they think sleeping with each other is perfectly okay.
Hell, even if we believe that the eldest daughter does escape from the trunk at the end, she probably won't be able to explain to anyone what happened or where she came from (given that she has no concept of names and no idea where the house is located). And even if she did, people might not believe her.

I'd ask you to play House, but you'd be a weird example for our kids.

After a collapse of your world, if you do not have any mental illness, i think a one or two year adjustment is all they need to overcome this trauma. Everything they learned can be adjusted very easily and i think the kids where very bright.
