This movie did not deserve a nomination

The plot had such promise, it is a shame that the filmakers did not explore that. For example - the older sister's first experience in an outside world with the words she learnt from her parents.

Instead much of the film is just based on this inside world.

Cannot beleive the academy passed over a movie like The Prophet for this one.

Again, before making any stupid remarks , just check your facts. It's OK to say "it didn't deserve a nomination". It's OK to say "I didn't like it" . It's not OK to say "Cannot beleive the academy passed over a movie like The Prophet for this one."
The Prophet was nominated for Best Foreign Film LAST YEAR.

ha. this gave me a good laugh....anyways this movie was pretty brilliant i thought.
and if u watch the interview with the director he said he actually set out to make a sci/fi pic at first. dogtooth is what that turned into. i found that was pretty interesting and i also liked the fact that they used vhs and cassette tape. i felt it really added alot to the effect of not knowing what year this was supposed to be or what planet are they on?

anyways this movie also gave me a few good laughs. the acting was also very good.

I agree totally with your last point. It had a really old feel to it with the VCR and the vinyls and the dial telephone yet we saw the father in an office with a computer installed with Windows XP. It really hit home how isolated this family was and how even if all the children did escape they would be absolutely *beep* for the rest of their lives.

I am surprised it was nominated at the Oscars just because of its content. It doesn't seem like their sort of movie at all. I like how they gave them some recognition though. Too bad they lost.

And to the OP I actually liked this more than A Prophet. I would like to rewatch that again some time but it wasn't as great as many claim.

It was brilliant. I think a lot of people don't "get it" though.

You can't bash a film because it didn't show you what you wanted to see. I like the ambiguity and I like what I was shown.

Would you enjoy a sequel where the eldest sister joins bingo night and social events, only to have them unfold in a comedic way because she has no clue what she's doing?

We've met before, haven't we?
