Not All That Funny, But Still Kind Of Like It....

Well, I've watched the first four episodes and this one is tough to pin down. If the show's aim is to make me laugh, it's coming up a little short. While I have laughed at a few lines, that has been the exception rather than the rule. Maybe it's the material, maybe it's the actors (the deliveries of the DA, Bailiff and Clerk fall pretty flat). In addition, the show relies on the annoying habit of tossing in a laugh track at lines that don't seem to be jokes. I've seen it written that the show is pre-taped then shown to a live audience to add the laughs, but some lines are clearly followed by canned laughter, which sounds forced.

This may be right, or I might be WAY off....but my suspicion is that the show isn't necessarily intended to provide gut-busting laughter. Instead, this appears to be a show that is all about the stories of Abby and Dan and how they handle their new roles, with an attempt at humor thrown in on the side.

Both Abby and Dan are interesting characters and that's what saves the show.
