Is it because it'll be *that* different, and with no Samantha? Or less focused on sex given where they're at in life? But that also feels like a stereotype they'd seek to avoid

I'm sure this mini series will be awful so I'm glad it's not linked to its original name.

It will be politically correct, lgbt, racially diverse, blah blah nothing about sex and the city

Maybe to avoid the criticism of "not being Sex and the City" because there's no Samantha

i think it would be a breach of contract with the original cast.

ie. Samantha
there's likely a cause that defines who can use the name etc

"Our whole purpose was that this is the next chapter. That's our only reason to have it have a different title. We didn't want people to have the same expectations when obviously it's a different time, it's a different show that speaks to now."
