I knew the movie was about a gay whale, so nope, I didn't turn it off.
You should watch it, one of the best freakshows I've seen in a while. It's not as good as The Elephant Man but still pretty good.
I'm pretty sure he was a homosexual in the entire movie and not just the first five minutes.

Actually, there is a gay sex scene in this movie at the beginning when the main character is watching gay porn, the camera catches the gay dudes humping. Its not very explicit but you know what's going on. In addition to this, he's masturbating to it.

That in itself would probably turn a lot of people off to watching it but if you can get passed this scene, the rest of the movie is pretty good.
