Please stop making films in 3D!

I'd managed to avoid seeing any films in 3D since "Avatar." Until "In the Heart of the Sea," that is. The technology has not improved in sixty years. It failed to entertain in the 1950s, it failed to entertain in the 1970s, and it fails to entertain now. At best, it's a gimmick and at worst it's a distraction from the story. The glasses are a nuisance and the effect is like watching a film through the wrong end of a coca cola bottle. Enough, please!

Most films released in 3D are show in the same multiplex theaters in standard non-3D version, so watching it in 3D was your mistake. Next time, make an informed decision and choose to see a film in the standard version if that's what you prefer.

Sorry, dad. The pest control people told me to leave the apartment for six hours, so I decided to kill a couple of them at the movies. The film was NOT available in a 2D version. As I said, I hadn't seen a film in 3D in a number of years, so I was willing to give it a go. It gave me a bad case of mal de mer. So you can climb down off your high horse. You looked pretty silly up there anyway.

Actually yes it was available in standard format because I went to it. Like the other commenter said most 3D are available in both formats so people that don't like 3D can still go. Maybe the theater you went to only had the 3D version which can happen but then usually another theater in the area will have standard.

@frankwilkeson Had an excellent response to your OP. You could've learned something from it, oh well.
I'm not up to date all things 3D but I believe most all of it is crap as it converted into 3D in post. Generally I always try to avoid 3D, this film was available in both versions. A very few movies are shot with 3D cameras but I believe Avatar was. I thought the 3D was spectacular in that film and in the others (Gravity comes to mind) specifically shot with 3D cameras.

You're a dimension denier.

I refuse to see any movie in 3D.

3D is really for IMAX documentaries that have much better light power, steady, prolonged shots and subject matter that lend themselves to 3D. These movies are pretty rare, but do work nicely in 3D, in my opinion. But, yes, movies with quick shots, hand-held cameras, etc. are ill-suited to even consider being in 3D.

'In the Heart of the Sea' was in 3D too? That was not even an option here luckily. Not a fan of 3D myself.

But how else will Hollywood leech more money out of your wallet? People love to be scammed; so let them be scammed. You can laugh at them wearing those ugly 3D glasses and wasting their money; it's hilarious..

I saw the film in 2D first and barely remembered it. I saw it later in 3d and liked it much better. I felt more connected to it.

Man this otherwise beautiful movie is hard to look at. I'm on a "sea movie" binge and i'm watching this one now and the way they're using the camera in this is hard to look at. Makes the movie feel amateur like it's some old BBC production. I look it up and sure enough, this was a 3D movie. All these horrible camera frames and things stuck in front of the lens for no reason and everybody standing parsed out front to back instead of side to side. Maybe this looks better in 3D? IDK man.
