Oh, hun...I highly doubt that anyone (especially the victims) involved within those ridiculous incidents suddenly thought: Oh! I know what...I've just been threatened by some weirdo with a machete and dressed as a clown...but I'll drop by IMDb and check out the page for It! 😊

I think it has more to do with the fanpage on Facebook. It's been around for a long time and once the BTS pics started to flow into Instagram, its popularity blew up.

So, by your theory, we should blame the clown incidents? They've increased and worsened and the popularity score for this film has started to decrease. But no...it has nothing to do with the clown incidents. The popularity score is influenced by the traffic received by this page (namely, us). Now that the excitement has died a little and the photographs / pictures of the production have virtually dried up...the traffic on this board will die (no more than slightly, hopefully). Some will visit less and others will post less. Hence, the popularity score dips...
...it will most likely peak again with the release of a teaser and / or trailer. 😃
...not necessarily with the next idiotic clown stunt. 😉
