The Horrible acting skills by the kid in the glasses (Finn Wolfhard) and the fat kid (Jeremy Ray Taylor) ruined this movie a bit for me. Every time one of them was on the screen, it felt like a bad school play, how did these kids even end up on the big screen?

The characters as a whole were pretty thin, as it is a horror movie and they are archetypes, but the actors nailed their roles and the fat kid adn the girl seemed to go beyond just portraying the types and made them feel believable.
The glasses kid was just there for one-liners and had pretty good delivery.
i partly agree but the kid in the glasses is maybe the worst actor on this planet
