Absolutely hate the narration

What a weird decision. And weirdly narrated, too, almost flippantly, like the whole thing is a joke. Hardly the case.

reply

that's keith morrison
it's like a dateline mini tv series of a dateline story I guess

i'm addicted to youtbe, my attention span sucks these days and I got some other issues im dealing with.

reply

Yeah I know, i get it. Plus they’ve now introduced Dateline itself, as if it’s going to save the day. NBC taking credit for busting the case.

reply

I thought the voice was familiar. Thanks. I can tell now it’s Keith Morrison. I kept thinking of someone trying to be Bill Curtis. Makes sense though. I never heard of this story until the series.

reply

I love the narration from the real Dateline. You have to watch Dateline NBC to see the humor in it.

reply

I guess. At this point, I’m used to it.

reply

How can you ever fault Keith Morrison, he’s a legend.
But totally unnecessary in a mini-series teleplay

reply

I'm not familiar with the actual crime, but when I saw the ads for this show on television and realized it was based on true events, that it seemed to have a humorous tone to it bothered me a lot and seems in very poor taste.
While I find the movie Fargo to be brilliant, I'm not sure how I would feel if it were based on real events. Maybe I'd still enjoy it, but there's something about Pam that doesn't strike the right chord for me.

reply

The ads are not like the series itself. It isn’t treated as a comedy — it’s dead serious and you feel awful for the husband falsely accused and you want this horrid manipulative woman arrested and jailed. I blame the marketing dept for making it look like it isn’t. Don’t they ever watch what they’re promoting?

reply

Thank you for pointing this out. I imagine the whole production team from the top down (dissenters aside) were in on how they promoted the show, just to rope in as many people as they can.
There is a lot of comedy (and dark comedy) that can be mined from inept criminal behavior, and the boundaries of taste are going to be pushed, I do get that. For better or worse.

reply

Yeah but there’s no comedy here at all. Not even black comedy. You watch with mouth agape at how bizarre this woman is. Nothing funny about a pathological liar.

reply

There is a bit of comedy here at just how wacky she is, such as (SPOILERS):

- The fact that she's always carrying a huge slurpee cup from the convenience store
- Her courtroom "No no no no no no no no no" rampage
- Her cutting up the carpet piece for Gumpenberger to fall on

reply

Also when it shows Gumpenberger doing gymnastics during her telling her version of what happened. That was funny!
