This is nothing like the 2005 movie (minor spoilers)

The premise is completely different. The Mr. & Mrs. Smith in the 2005 movie did not know their spouses were spies. They thought each other as ordinary people and used each other as covers, what are the chances that happens in real life?

Anyway this show is that they are in an arranged marriage, they know they are the agents should be working as a team.

So it is a very different idea, only the title is the same. I am not sure they even need to pay license fee for that.

This show is old fashion spying, no gadgets, no stereotypical all-seeing tech support, no high altitude stunts, no raining bullets, not the bullshit spy action movies you would have seen in recent years. If you like the beekeeper, you are probably not going to like this show.

This is more like what ordinary spies are like in real life. Because I think spy couples are a real and fairly common thing.

Neither of them is that good looking, that is another realism. Girls look like Alexandra Daddario or Jennifer Connelly can't be spies, they attract too much attention to themselves.

There are a lot of relationship stuffs, like how they get along as 2 strangers thrown together. How their relationship progress as they went through live and death situations. I think the actions are more side stories, the show is mostly focused on their relationships. There is a whole episode for their couple therapy sessions.

It is probably more like 'The Americans' when the couple first started. But unlike 'The Americans' they don't know who they work for, they are in it for the money.

And it does not have the depth or seriousness of 'The Americans', nor does it contains nudity or very heavy stuffs. It is more of a fluffy light version.

Also the actions are weak in the show, the fighting sequences were not all that convincing. Again we have the small woman throwing much larger men around problem, and we never seen her doing any combat training. For a show going for realism this is something not working.

It is watchable but I doubt this is going to be a groundbreaking show like 'The Americans'.
