Serious question about transgender dating

Not trying to start a debate or sound rude or anything, but something has always confused me. Who do most transgender people try to date? I just see it as being very complicated and confusing.

In order to simplify this post, let's assume we're talking about someone who was born male and now identifies as female.

Do they want to date a straight man? Wouldn't it be difficult to find a straight man who wants to date someone who used to be a man?

Do they want to date a gay man? Wouldn't a gay man not be attracted to someone who identifies as a woman?

Do they want to date a straight woman? Wouldn't a straight woman not be attracted to someone who identifies as a woman?

Do they want to date a gay woman? Would a gay woman be attracted to someone who used to be a man?

Or do they just try to date other transgenders? Or do they just have difficulty dating? I realize everyone is different, so there may not be a very straightforward answer, but I was just wondering if there was a common trend. Sorry for the long post. I just don't personally know any transgender people, and I've always been curious about this.

Depends on their sexuality, they might like men or women. But to answer your question, a transwoman(born male, transision to be a woman) wants to date a person that is into women. Simple as that. People who like women are usually into vaginaso yes that can be slightly problematic but I think today people are very open sexually that they would find someone. Can't answer that personally though.

I guess in today's day and age with the internet it would be much less difficult than it used to be to find someone who is into that. Still seems like they wouldn't have many people to choose from though. I had a difficult enough time finding a straight woman as a straight man!

reply

Some people just want to be with somebody special who cares about them, and they're less hung up on genitalia. But I imagine it can be difficult without a local community of like-minded individuals.

Some transgender women date men. Some date women. Some are bisexual.
Just like any other woman.

For reference, the three transgender women I know are in relationships with:
1) A lesbian.
2) Their wife, who is bisexual.
3) A man.

reply

Makes sense. I know everyone is different. Just wasn't sure if there was a common trend or if it was just difficult for them to date in general.

reply

Basically sexuality is between your ears and not just between your legs. And love comes in all forms.

I am 60 now and married for 23 years, but from what I remember, it is hard for everyone to date.

Finding someone you get along with, who understands you, and you can trust them, that comes along once or twice in a lifetime.

I imagine it is even harder for a trans person to find that, but it's not impossible.

I haven't read all the replies yet, and I'm going to, but your post reminded me of this scene from Seinfeld - "The Rye" ep. 7.11:

(George's father asks the question - I think Susan's father gives the answer)
"Let me understand.
You got the hen, the chicken and the rooster.
The rooster goes with the chicken.
So who's having sex with the hen? - We'll talk about it another time.
- But you see my point here? You only hear of a hen, a rooster and a chicken.
- Something's missing! - Something's missing, all right.
They're all chickens.
The rooster has sex with all of them.
- That's perverse."

reply

As long as they are honest that they were born a different sex then so be it. But, like most group, they probably expect everyone to immediately accept them but don't accept others who don't.
