Season 3 episode 1 and 2 wtf was that?

Episode 1 was essentially a random assortment of scenes recapping the previous 2 seasons with the same music constantly playing over top it with little to no dialogue and no attempt to further the story along at all. You could skip episode 1 and not miss a single thing of importance to the story.

Then episode 2 its a 30 minute episode essentially of Carmy in the kitchen talking with everyone, and it never leaves that kitchen aside from the opening 3 minutes with Sydney and her dad. Yeah it advances the story a bit more than episode 1 did but there wasn't much to it.

I just don't know what they're doing so far, episode 1 and 2 feels like they aint got much story to tell and they're dragging shit on for a long time, with an entire episode that was just a recap, then an episode where everyone just stays in 1 room the entire episode talking.

I hope the season gets better and moving along from here but these first 2 episodes have me worried. Episode 1 especially felt like they're trying to be way too artsy fartsy.

agreed. sometimes it happens when a show becomes a bigger hit than expected. creators probably have a story they want to tell, but now they have to spread it out to tell that story. I really believe that happened with Yellowjackets and Lost just to name a few others.

reply

Yeah thats exactly what happened i believe, they ran out of story to tell but its such a hit they gotta keep making it, and now they're making episodes that feel drawn out and pointless with not much story to offer.

That first episode could've been edited together by a random guy on the internet taking clips from the previous 2 seasons and putting music over top it, just a pointless episode that could be cut out of the season and nothing of importance would be lost. It was the definition of a pointless filler episode, which they used to kick the season off which baffled me, are you trying to drive viewers away and get them to stop watching?

reply

I really liked the first episode. I'd agree that the second was a bit pedestrian...

My thoughts are that the first episode was an artistic-like metaphor to express the evolution from a fast food dive to that of the development of a high class restaurant.

Also, it seems this entire season is like the development and metamorphosis of a butterfly from larva to full glory.
