Not sure I follow your logic. Solar power, while it was effective for the flashlight, isn't endlessly effective, especially on a larger scale. Solar power wasn't what saved the black kid -- constant maintenance of non-solar power that works even at night was what saved him. And if the days are getting shorter, as the film implies, solar power will quickly become a non-starter anyway.
