Indiana Jones belongs only in the era of the original pulp adventures that inspired the franchise.

That would be about WW1 era to WW2. Young Indiana Jones was fine, all the movies until the Crystal Skull were fine. Indiana Jones, as a pulp hero did not belong in the 1950s. That movie was lame and lacked the feel of the earlier ones. This latest effort will likely be set in the 1960s. It just does not make sense to have a pulp hero in the greaser era of the 50s or the mod 60s era. They should either have made more pulp-era films while Ford was young, or they should get a new younger actor to play Jones and return to the 1910s, 20s, 30s, or 40s settings.

They should have gone the James Bond route years ago and hired a different actor to play Indy if Harrison Ford wasn’t interested anymore, they kinda did already with various actors playing Young Indy anyways.
