Question about... (contains spoilers of the final episode)

the tape. I binged the whole series this week and was wondering about the tape they used for the suits to go outside. Were the bad guys using poisonous tapes to kill the others to prove that it was safer indoors? The friend of Rebecca seemed to realise something and swapped the tapes at the last minute so that Rebecca could survive. Did I miss something? Were the tapes poisonous or were the bad guys just using flimsy and not practical tapes?

I did think something poisonous was put in the suits or in smoke blown onto them before they went out. Thanks

The tape used to bind the suits of the others that went outside was inferior tape and it didn't stop the toxic air from entering their suits, hence them dying. Rebecca's old friend knew that, and she had proper strong tape that held it together no matter what, so she made sure that they used that tape on Rebecca's suit, so when Rebecca went outside, the toxic air didn't get into her suit and kill her.

Thank you so much. So the air was definitely toxic then. I thought the bad guys were purposely poisoning the ones that went out to make it look like it was toxic outside.

Yeah at first I thought it was the bad guys that were poisoning them too, but a few people did know about the inferior tape but kept quiet about it. We see in that Season 1 finale, the air outside really was toxic as was the nuclear holocaust that made it that way.
