The "lovable" bumbling loser character almost ruins the movie

I mostly enjoyed the movie but I almost forgot how terrible this character was. Inexplicably, he's immediately embraced & recruited into the "elite" inner circle of main characters, despite clearly being physically and mentally unqualified. He completely drags down every scene he's in with his constant unfunny "look at me" bumbling antics. Of course, they also include the fantasy cliche in movies where he somehow gets the "hot chick" in the end who is inexplicably attracted to his autistic fumbling & bumbling the whole movie.

The character was so completely out of place and unnecessary to the point that I'd be shocked to find out that the role wasn't tacked on for the actor out of some sort of industry nepotism. The movie literally wouldn't miss a beat if the character was cut entirely & it would have in fact been much better off for it.
