Why do Atlanteans wear shoes?

Why do Atlanteans wear shoes? And not only shoes, what's the purpose of high heeled platform boots?

Seriously, if you float around everywhere you go, there's no need for shoes.

If you float everywhere you go, height is irrelevant, so that can't be it. And you're not wearing heels to enhance your posture or look sexy while walking. So WTF? How does this fashion even exist?

Wow, a person still remembers this movie!

Although it's only been a few hours, I don't even remember how I ended up on the Aquaman board.

Cape's also.

Yeah, they should go barefoot or wear flippers, really.
Surprised they haven't evovlved web feet already.

One answer is that there are very sharp and dangerous surfaces underwater.

Now, I think bare feet vs shoes is an interesting debate and you could go either way. Also, clothing in general is not always for protection. It can also be just decorative or indicative of status, position, or rank.

Given that I could see shod feet as being reasonable, high heels seem to me to be illogical. Since swimming would be the typical mode of movement, foot coverings would need to be somewhat flexible. High heels don't seem to fit that.

This is a valid point and I think we agree on this. I think we also agree that high heels don't seem to make logical sense. When you float/swim, they don't make you taller than others and they also don't change your posture either.

Shoes can be fashionable in the Atlantean world. However, they seem to have underwater movement in such a way that flippers or flexible options wouldn't be required. Didn't Aquaman push a sub to the surface? Some other locomotion is at work that flippers are not accounting for.

That is certainly true.

Why do Atlanteans wear clothes? Clothing other than high-tech swim gear slows down swimmers, and restricts freedom of movement!

Really, there's not a damn thing in this movie you can think about in any depth, none of it makes sense. But all of it is fun, so what the hell.

Again, every decision people make isn't ruled by absolute logic or practicality. Why do people wear the same business suits in Miami as they do in Montreal? After all, Miami is much hotter; they should be peeling down to minimal garments. Montreal tends to be cooler. Why are the suits not fur-lined or quilted?

People wear clothes for many reasons, as I noted above. I'm sure, for most Atlanteans, dressing to achieve maximum swimming speed is likely not at the top of their priorities, just as people on the surface don't dress so they can run as fast as possible.

It could be as simple as historical. They used to wear shows on land and the habit never ended.
