Female Empowerment Propaganda

Nothing to see here. Barbie is just part of the female empowerment propaganda machine disguised as a fun nostalgic summer flick. Woke, check. Anti-male, check. Fat Barbie, check.

reply

Women can be portrayed as empowered without bashing men. I haven’t seen Barbie, but what I’ve heard about it does sound like it could be anti-male. I’ll wait until it comes to streaming to watch.

reply

I think calling anti-male is kind of inaccurate, it is not wrong, just inaccurate. From what I understand the movie is about the barbie land, a perfect matriarchy society, which is clearly the feminist fantasy, everything is run by barbie, kens have no say of anything. The main Barbie and Ken went to the real world, and Ken found out he was actually noticed and respected, so he went back to the barbie land tried to turn things around, and the barbie defeated his attempt, in the end the barbie land went back the way it was, the perfect world entirely run by barbies, the happy ending.

So it is a feminist matriarchy fantasy, and clearly they don't want gender equality.

reply

I saw it and was triggered by the anti-male rhetoric. It certainly felt anti-male to me.

reply

Like I said it is not wrong, it is anti-male, but it is more than that, it is also about suppress and dominate male.

reply

I think calling anti-male is kind of inaccurate, it is not wrong, just inaccurate."

If it's not wrong, then it's not inaccurate.

reply

It is like calling an automatic machine gun "a gun", it is not wrong, but that does not cover it very well, does it?

reply

ANTI-INCEL is not Anti-Male

reply

True, but Barbie is not just anti-incel, it is definitely anti-male. All the kens and all the men in the real world are portrayed very badly and the film promotes discrimination against men. Have you seen the film?

reply

The original Ken doll was an effeminate CHAD, and Gosling's character pays homage to, as well as deprecates the silliness of the aesthetic. This aspect goes over the heads of Rightwingers who think any message from Hollywood is about castration of the delicate White American male ego.

reply

That's one character, but the movie as a whole is anti-male. I'm not a rightwinger and I definitely noticed it. Have you personally seen the film or are you going by what others say?

reply

I saw the film on Friday. The Anti-male whining is what most Centrist consider Hyperbole. Rightwingers pick and choose what's Anti-male, then try to generalize it as an entire film's agenda. But, using their criteria, they obviously fail to highlight other famous movie heroines like Ripley from the Alien franchise as a Woke Feminist, even though sll of her character qualities echo the RW definition of Anti-male (ie - Dallas being an oblivious idiot, Hicks being a whiny jockstrap marine).

The same dichotomy could be argued with Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz

reply

DID YOU SEE STARSHIP TROOPERS?...THAT FILM AND BARBIE SHARE SOMETHING IN COMMON...BITING SATIRE.

reply

It was not a satire, at least not an intentional one, it was later portrayed by media as satire, because we can not let the idea that rich people are not allowed to have political influence and power sink in.

I think you just bought the media narrative, and media are owned by rich people.

reply

I HAVE READ AND WATCHED NOTHING ABOUT THE MOVIE...I SIMPLY WATCHED THE MOVIE...IT IS A BITING SATIRE AND IT IS FUNNY AS ALL HELL...I ENJOYED IT MORE THAN I ANTICIPATED....I STILL HAVE YET TO WATCH A SINGLE REVIEW OR MEDIA PIECE OR READ A WORD ABOUT THE FILM...EXCEPT WHAT HAS BEEN WRITTEN ON MOVIECHAT...I MAKE MY OPINIONS ON MY OPINIONS...NOTHING ELSE.

reply

And lots and lot of people calling it satire here, that is how I knew it being called that.

Rich people don't just own media, they own the bots and shills here too.

reply

MMM HMM...THAT IS RIGHT...I READ MOVIECHAT AND FORMED MY OPINION THAT WAY.

I WATCHED THE MOVIE THE WEEK IT WAS RELEASED...I IMMEDIATELY LIKED IT AND RECOGNIZED IT AS A SATIRE...A WELL DONE ONE AT THAT...EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST EVERYTHING ELSE.

reply

My apologies.

I actually agree voting rights should be earned, that is one of the ways not letting our society falling into plutocracy that is today.

reply

Voerhoven is a genius. We needed more of his movie direction than Didley Scott, who was a great visionary, but decided to become a redundant reductionist these past 20 odd years.

reply

Never said they were the same. This film is anti-male and anti-incel.

reply

I don't feel empowered by the 4th wave feminazi shit. You couldn't pay me to watch this! I feel insulted and angry that anyone would find this empowering. It's insulting towards motherhood, it's insulting towards real feminism, and it's insulting towards men. Greta Gerwin can go suck it as far as I'm concerned.

reply

What is it that some of you want? All movies to cater to male audiences? For women to 'know their place' and not have any media encouraging them to do better?

'Female Empowerment Propoganda'. The horror... the horror.

Barbie is a historical toy for girls. Everyone should have known this movie would cater to girls and women. If you thought this would be some macho man flick for the lads to enjoy then you're a fool. Let the girls have a movie catered to them.

reply

For women to 'know their place' and not have any media encouraging them to do better?

But it is not about that, is it? There is no female empowerment message in it. There is nothing about working hard and achieving dreams, none of that.

It is mostly complaining about men and motherhood, and how the real world is not like a matriarchy, like in barbie land.

I don't think this movie would have done nearly as well if there were anything related to women working hard to achieve dreams.

reply

I DON'T THINK YOU HAVE SEEN IT.

reply

It required some patience but I did watch it from beginning to end.

reply

I'm not saying it shouldn't cater to women, but it completely tears down men. Not only that, it could have been better, see how:

We see that in the beginning Kens are ignored and Barbies are the star (I'm good with that, the beginning was great and hilarious). We see Ken and Barbie going through their own trials etc. Then we have the end...A great story/ending would have been the two groups (Ken/Barbie) going through their issues, realizing their differences, and finding empathy for each other, eventually working together or something. Instead, the men are villified at the end and given no power. That is blatant anti-male propaganda.

reply

Instead, the men are villified at the end and given no power.

INCORRECT...DID YOU SEE THE MOVIE?

reply

Think about it, what exactly happened to Ryan Gosling Ken in the end? Is there a real difference from "you can go now" to "you need to go and find yourself"?

Did constitution change to share power with Kens?

At the end it was still a matriarchy, Kens only get what Barbies given to them.

Or you think that is already enough equality?

reply

THE CONSTITUTION OF POWER DID CHANGE...EQUALITY INCOMING...BUT REMEMBER WHEN WOMEN BEGAN GETTING RIGHTS AND EQUALITY?...IT WAS NOT OVERNIGHT...WOMEN DID NOT GET THE RIGHT TO VOTE AND IMMEDIATELY START GETTING PLACED ON TH SUPREME COURT...EQUALITY IS NOT THE STATE OF EVERYONE BEING EQUAL...IT IS THE ABILITY TO WORK/EARN/RECEIVE/ENJOY THE SAME OPPURTUNITES AND RIGHTS.

AGAIN...I SAY...I DO NOT THINK YOU WATCHED THE MOVIE...IF YOU DID...I AM SORRY...YOU ARE JUST TOO DENSE OR ONE-SIDED TO APPRECIATE THE FILM OR SATIRE IN GENERAL.

reply

YOU ARE JUST TOO DENSE OR ONE-SIDED TO APPRECIATE THE FILM OR SATIRE IN GENERAL.

I think that is what most people think about you here, you just lack self-awareness.

THE CONSTITUTION OF POWER DID CHANGE...

Did it really? Or are you just imagining things?

EQUALITY INCOMING...

You don't know that, you just assumed, you know what happens when you assume ...

BUT REMEMBER WHEN WOMEN BEGAN GETTING RIGHTS AND EQUALITY?...IT WAS NOT OVERNIGHT...WOMEN DID NOT GET THE RIGHT TO VOTE AND IMMEDIATELY START GETTING PLACED ON TH SUPREME COURT

Yeah, I knew that. But when women were given power they were given power, right away, it was not gradually granted by men, and that part did not happen in the movie, Barbie land simply went from a ruthless matriarchy into a benevolent one, that was all that happened, so what are you even babbling about?

Or that is the version of the equality that you, and most women, feminists at least, prefer, deep down, really, isn't it?

This movie actually can be regarded as satire, albeit unintentionally, I think it is a wonderful display of shameless hypocrisy that is modern feminism.

reply

YOU CLEARLY EITHER DID NOT WATCH THE MOVIE OR DID NOT PAY ATTENTION...YOUR OPINION IS BASED ON INACCURATE INFORMATION.

reply

Please elaborate, I am all ears.

reply

YOU WANT ME TO EXPLAIN THE END OF BARBIE TO YOU?...REALLY?...DUDE...JUST WATCH THE MOVIE...BASING YOUR OPINION ON YOUTUBE REVIEWS AND MOVIECHAT SCUTTLEBUTT IS A BAD LOOK.

reply

Yeah, you have that shameless hypocrisy thing down, so a feminist I guess.

reply

WOMEN DID NOT GET THE RIGHT TO VOTE AND IMMEDIATELY START GETTING PLACED ON TH SUPREME COURT...EQUALITY IS NOT THE STATE OF EVERYONE BEING EQUAL...IT IS THE ABILITY TO WORK/EARN/RECEIVE/ENJOY THE SAME OPPURTUNITES AND RIGHTS.

Women NEVER earned the opportunities they've been gifted. Welfare mostly benefits women. Grants mostly benefit women. There are enforced standards across the U.K., for employing women, as well as placing them in positions of power at various corporations:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/lindsaykohler/2022/04/25/the-financial-conduct-authority-mandates-uk-boards-to-be-at-least-40-female/?sh=57c1db1b3f99

None of that was earned. It wasn't as if women worked their way through the coal mines, sanitation circuits, teamster careers, and war to EARN positions of power. You're right that they were eventually given all of the rights of men, but without working for it.

reply

>What is it that some of you want?

Movies that are more interested in telling a good story than pushing agenda? You know, like plenty of them are?

reply

Bingo!! You summed that up pretty well and everything else unfortunately fell by the wayside because of it..

reply

is that supposed to be a bad thing...?
