"Barbiecore" is a word now.

It means "Barbie-like accessories and clothing" usually in bright pink, and it's all over the internet! The word hasn't made it into the official dictionaries, because it's only about a month old, and I don't know how long it takes dictionaries to add words.

And if you want proof of a film being overwhelmingly successful, I'd say that inspiring brand new words is right up there.

Barbiecore has been around at least since 1997.

While interesting, this is not the same meaning, context, nor usage. It was never widespread or had mass adoption. It seems to be a limited example.

reply

Sure, but it's not a "brand new word". The current meaning seems to have started to emerge a year ago.

It's not widespread now. This is the first I've heard of it.

It’s not a movie I’m interested in except for the $ numbers. They are closing in on $1.3 billion dollars in ticket sales, that’s Star Wars and Marvel money right there. Very impressive, I predict a sequel, they’d be stupid not to go back to the well again!

I WANNA SEE 12" JOES IN THE SEQUEL...SO MANY PEOPLE I KNEW INTERMIXED BARBIES AND JOES.

Hot stuff!

STAR WARS was overwhelmingly successful, but I don't recall the phrase "Scruffy looking nerf herder" making it into the dictionaries because of the movie's popularity at the time?? Barbiecore sounds like a Gen Z thing is all..

Ah, but everyone knows what a light saber is, whether they're a fan or not!
