The Corrinos seriously got shortchanged

I guess Villeneuve spent all the film's budget on the CGI for Arakkis and that stupid arena scene on Geidi Prime.

I mean, the scenes on Kaitain, the second homeworld of the imperial Corrino family, is supposed to be a beautiful, paradise world with a ring around it. The emperor's court was said to be very rich and a marvel to behold. He was said to have beautiful palaces to live in, and his court was always portrayed to be dressed lavishly.

What do we get in this movie? Cheap garden scenes shot in Italy, and at least one or two cheap scenes done in a bland, black and white room. Obviously Villeneuve focused way too much on Arakkis and very little on anywhere else.

Fine with me

Maybe Villeneuve downplayed Kaitain because he didn't want to have a third world detract from the visual impact of Arrakis and Giedi Prime.

Plus the scenes on Kaitain were relatively short. And there are plenty of other movies depicting beautiful, paradise worlds. And Kaitain wasn't even mentioned in the original novels, so maybe Villeneuve thought making a spectacle of it would be too divergent from the source material.

It wasn't an issue with the two previous versions of "Dune." And "Star Wars" never had issues showing fantastic visuals on multiple worlds within each film. Frankly, aside from the battles and the desert/arena scenes, Villeneuve isn't really impressing me as much. In fact, his films, despite the gigantic space vessels, look cheaper by comparison to previous sci-fi films. He's not one for making his films eye-catching unless you're staring at his gigantic space ships, spice harvesters, or giant sandworms.

I agree with you.

Lynch at least showed us the different worlds and a few family houses outside of Arrakis.

Great visuals in his version.

And he didn't even have the benefit of good CGI in his day! All he had were miniatures, matte paintings, and actual sets!

Also, he got a sow to play Irulan.

I know! Not only did they get a boring-looking actress to play her, but they put her in the most boring or unattractive costumes I've ever seen the princess wear! It's like they were trying to ugly her up so that Chani would look "pretty" by comparison, though to be fair, they failed.
