I love Dune One, but this is all the worst parts of One with nothing good. Also the leads are fucking awful together.

In the first one I found Chalamet's character completely believable as the Duke Leto's son, and was kind of on board with the idea of him being a manipulated prophet that'd become a leader to the Fremen. But my GOD is there no chemistry between him and Zendaya, who spends 99% of both movies being a scowling hobgoblin. She has no range, there's no believability that Paul would fall in love with her (rather than being some option of desperation while stranded in a desert), and she's just ugly in the role. She falls into the trope of "I'm going to appear strong by looking like I outright hate the male lead; that's what strong women do, right?"

From what I was able to finish of Dune: Part Two, its only redeeming qualities are exciting skirmishes of the Fremen against the Harkonnen. Those are sprinkled amongst endless boring fucking scenes where we have to watch our two leads on screen together, and it's just utterly miserable.

I also don't buy the whole "noble savage" trope in the Fremen, though the story is from a different time. It felt like the political machinations of the more sci-fi elements stayed a lot fresher than what's obviously Herbert falling for the propaganda at the time that the Mujahadeen (who became the Taliban) were "freedom fighters" resisting the Soviets.
