"You have to see this on the BIGGEST screen!" hype was nothing more than PR?

Let's be serious, most of this movie is people just talking to each other, and no "IMAX experience" is going to change that. In my opinion, the "watch it on the biggest screen" hype as a marketing gimmick to make people thing the A-bomb explosion stuff as going to be a much bigger part of the movie than it ended up being.

Agreed. This is a film that you can watch on an iPhone and you'll get just as much out of it as if you were at IMAX or a 50-100" home TV screen. The film is all about the dialogue, and the trinity test explosion was a huge letdown anyway...

Yep. If you blink at the wrong moment you'll miss the bit that's worth you watching on the big screen for.
