Feels like im watching what should be a quick 15-30 second TV add, where they just put a few words onto the screen to give a hint of whats to come.
But they use it through the entire thing with no narrator. Very poorly done.
At the end of it, I was kind of scratching my head, thinking, "I don't really get this movie at all."

The Hawaii thing was proof he was high? No. I wasn't even sure if it was a deliberate vulgar joke or one of those embarrassing ad-libs presenters accidentally make.

But you're wrong about the origin of the phrase. It originally meant exactly what it sounds like but has since acquired the rude connotation because that's how humans roll.
