Great jump scare!

Right at the end of this trailer. Should have kept it for the movie, but I guess it's a balancing act between getting people excited and not giving good stuff away.

Hopefully there are more scares of this quality in the movie.

Yeah, loved that one.

the best horror movies work without jump scares - but its so damn hard to make a good horror trailer without them ^^

"the best horror movies work without jump scares"

Agreed - well, it depends on the movie and the context of course -

The appearance of 'Jodie' outside the window in Amityville Horror was brilliant - although it was subtle as far as visuals go which didn't detract from it one bit: https://youtu.be/pDEJr2Sqhxc Scared the tinkle right out of me the first time I saw it.

but the one I'm talking about in this movie was quite impressive and unexpected.

That is true. I thought Smile was a decent horror movie but it relied a little too much on jump scares.

reply

If the movie has jump scares, people scream "cliche". But if there's no jump scares, people lament it's "boring".

reply

That is true. Besides, you need jump scares to make people look up from their phones!

I have this condition whenever there's jump scare scene I got shocked then follow immediately with laugh, is that healthy?

reply

Im so glad i didn't see this trailer before i watched the movie, it gives away far too much so i was happy to go into watching this film knowing the bare minimum about it!

reply

I'm kinda jealous now. How was that scare seeing it in the full context of the movie?

reply

Yes! My husband asked me last night if it was a good movie because he heard me gasping out loud and saying oh no, oh my goodness & yikes. Lol I never do this with scary movies

reply

There are too many of them.

reply

Just watched it, and yes there are too many. It really didn't need them all and some felt redundant and forced.

reply

This is the creepiest movie in a long time IMO. The Laura scene sets the tone.
