Do you think she would have killed herself?
I'm not gonna say James was all bad and I'm not gonna say Kelly was either. I think they both had a fair share of good and ba qualities.
But those times when he pulled away, like the "Travis" scene for instance, do you think if he would've just trusted her and let himself love her again that she wouldn't have killed herself? or do you think she was a lost cause from the start?
Probably. I think people that are suicidal have all these reasons in their mind why they should give up and sometimes look for someone or a something that gives them "permission." I think had she had someone that truly cared for her, like Beau, she would have just found another reason to throw the towel in.
shareThroughout the movie I couldn't work out the dynamics of the characters. I mean, I knew who everyone was, and how they sat etc, but I couldn't work out a 'good guy/bad guy' situation, which I think is good because real life isn't like the movies often portray them.
That said, I think one thing the movie could have possibly done better was give a bit of a back story for James. It didn't really explain why he was distant from his wife. Clearly he had some kind of anger towards her because of the child they lost, but I don't think the relationship would have been all roses before that had happened.
It's something I think I would have preferred played out a little better because I feel that James was made out to be a bit of a fall guy for the reason everything was so bad. Sure, he was seen being flirtatious towards Chiles, but Kelly was seen as outright having affairs.

I think the problem was James felt like Kelly needed to go out there and perform and everything would be fine. But it seemed clear it wouldn't be.
I never saw him as bad because he obviously had a hard time being with his wife because of the lost child which I assumed was because she got drunk?
