His seeming choice of his twin sister over his wife and kids seemed very strange. Older Roderick admits that he knew that he would be willing to do whatever awful things he needed to do to be successful and wealthy, but younger Roderick until he betrays Augie seems to less committed to doing these things. He should have cut ties with his sister and enjoyed a middling career as a writer.
