The ear rests of his glasses can be pulled off to reveal a strong metal wire to pick the lock.

It's a little silly that his only attempt at escape was trying to pick the lock with a plastic fork and then giving up. I would have spent Sam's entire work days trying to break the chain in some way. He even left him chained to a thin metal pipe with a shovel at one point and he didn't think to use the shovel.

he could have pulled that pipe off the wall easily. i believe it was also mentioned at one point the house was 30 years old, but even a new pipe would have a weak spot somewhere, probably where it connects to the water heater. i think that might have been a gas line, it didnt look like copper.

You guys may be forgetting that Sam’s mother was right upstairs the entire time. She would’ve heard any noisy attempts to escape - probably would’ve heard him rustling the metal chain too much as well.
