It looks like this film is taking a different tone and will be teasing, "Is this true or not?" but the premise of a horror movie-style cabin requiring a sacrifice to prevent the apocalypse is the premise of Cabin in the Woods from 2011 - predating even the novel this new film is based off of.
I haven't read the book, and obviously this movie isn't out yet, but don't the premises seem really similar?

And I don't think it can outdo Cabin in the woods.
Cabin in the Woods was awesome, yeah, but if Knock at the Cabin isn't doing a meta-commentary/deconstruction of horror, it's not really competing with CITW.
It's just a really similar premise.
I didn't even notice that similarity until I think I saw someone point it out here.
But yeah, this story is nothing like Knock at the Cabin, on any level, except for that.
It was the first thing I thought of when read the premise, but maybe it's just a weird association I've got going on in my brain.
There are a lot of films with very, very similar setups or premises that are wildly different, though; doesn't make 'em rip-offs.

shareI mentioned the book in my post, and it also came out after the movie. Cabin in the Woods (2011), The Cabin at the End of the World (2018), and Knock at the Cabin is coming out.
Also, I didn't say this is a remake or ripoff of the other film, I just asked if the premises were similar.
