'You're Next' team on the remake

'You're Next' was good but this is going to be a huge waste of time even beyond the usual foreign remakes. 'I Saw The Devil' works as well as it does with stylized directing, extreme violence and two good performances from the leads. It's an exercise in style (not that that's a bad thing).

There are really only two possible things that will happen (since their intentions are basically to just 'port' the original):

1. They end up making a mainstream film for a wide audience, thus watering down the film and making it a pointless exercise.

2. They don't tone it down, it's extremely violent, and only a small group of people end up seeing it, thus defeating the point of getting it to a wider audience and, again, making it a pointless exercise.

There's simply no way you can take a film ISTD and tool it for a mainstream audience. Heck it was too extreme for South Korea.

It's just for people too lazy for subtitles. I assume the violence won't be an issue since that is never really a problem with mainstream audiences. I was surprised 'You're next' got as big as it was since it was such a low budget horror film. I don't think they are going to water it down but to people who saw the original version and liked it this will be mostly pointless to see again. This argument can be used with pretty much any remake including the Office.

It depends, I guess. The original film in its entirety was too extreme for South Korea and the US release was unrated. I have to imagine that an R-rated American film version would be diluted in some fashion.

You are absolutely right.
But I know I'll still watch it! Hope it does the original some justice.

Stop remaking Effin Asian classics! Get your own awful ideas and cash in on them like Annabelle Hollywood. You won't get any of my money.

Speak for yourself. Only a select few will bother to watch these original gems. This way it reaches a wider audience and might even get more people to watch the originals.

You're next and the guest weren't bad

But I just don't see Hollywood doing this film justice. I'm thimking it'll be mediocre at best.

Look at old boy it just isn't going to be the same.
