What happened before they moved that made Renai take time off?
She said she wanted things to be different in the new house, did they ever clarify what happened before?

I was wondering the same thing. I dont think it was ever explained. The baby was still pretty young, so perhaps renai was suffering from post partum and needed a new environment. Maybe there was a death in the family. Maybe she lost her job and was having a hard time finding another. Who knows.
