Nationals Competition
What I don't understand is how Bethany was able to surf in the Nationals if she didn't even place in the regionals? Same with Alana since she got disqualified for pushing Melina off her board in the regionals?

"Malina Birch" isn't a real person. I don't think Alana was really disqualified in the regionals. The movie explains that Bethany attended Nationals by special invitation. Might be true.
But Bethany is a good enough surfer that she has placed in the top ten in numerous surfing competitions around the world since then, winning some of them, including one just last year.
