Table scene near the end

It mirrors the exact ending scene from Stalker (1979) (with some variations though) by Andrey Tarkovskiy. I guess they were paying homage? Or?

It could be about race or sex, but I think it's a reminder that the line between civilization and savage barberism is very, very thin. One of the few things that keeps us from murdering each other is religion. Dismantling the church in favor of modern conveniences is a metaphor for our time. We've dismantled church today as well, but society is still holding together out of habit. But what happens when those old habits meet up with a new and changing world? Will we still hold onto the old values, or will we slaughter each other like savages?

Okay. Clearly I don't know how to start a new message board and there doesn't seem to be a way to edit a comment. Sorry.

Daniel Walker. You cannot be serious. Religion stops us from killing each other? Religion has been the main catalyst of murder since the beginning of time. And it is getting worse. No one kills in the name of atheism. Billions have died in the name of all of their gods.

reply

Yes, religion is a big killer. Especially when atheism is the state-enforced religion. See Joe Stalin and Mao Zedong.

reply

This comment is absolute nonsense. You don't need to have religion or even faith for that matter to live a moral life, treating others as you want them to treat you.

And as a matter of fact, more people have been murdered in the name of "religion" than for any other reason.

reply

Please note that treating others as you want to be treated is a direct quote from Jesus. Could an atheist legitimately claim this as a rule to live by?

Also, please see my comment above. Religion is a huge killer. Especially when atheism is the state-enforced religion. Reference Soviet Russia and Communist China.

reply

Direct quote from Jesus? Really???

You do realize that there were hundreds of gods and "religions" before Jesus (fictional or non-fictional).

The concept of treating others justly probably goes back to when mankind first began to settle together...long before Christianity was created.

Atheism is not a religion and yes an atheist can live by that moral code...fact!
