Dog was prominent part of film, but simply vanished. Did I blink or something? Did a writer fall asleep?

There are time jumps in the film (such as the crops growing), so it's possible the dog died. However, like you said the dog was prominent at the start you'd think if he did die, they'd have a quick scene of one of the characters finding his body or one of them burying him. Good question.

They ate the dog. They seem to have a lot of meat every day. Not just chicken and turkey, but dog as well.
This. She talked about being suicidally lonely, almost just gave up trying to stay alive because of it. Dog was obviously a rather fragile crutch. Now that she's got two men vying for her, loneliness over! Dog is now livestock instead of companion.
What a lovely way to burn...
Just watched it. I wondered what happenedvto the dog,too. He was my favorite character. :-(
