Where did the title come from?

Is it a reference to the Bible Alphabet he looked at in the beginning? Or the bibical Book of Zachariah?

reply

It comes from a children's alphabet book she had as a child. A was for Adam the first man so Z for Zachariah must be the last man. In the Movie Loomis finds the book when going though some stuff... in the book Ann remembers it as she recalls how she used it to learn to read and the irony of it now.

That makes sense. I haven't read the book, I wish they'd fleshed that out more in the movie. That would have made it a little more interesting.

I didn't catch that either. It's a really lousy title for the movie, although I guess it's from the book.

Grew up with the book, and while this was a nice post apocalypse movie I wish they'd just adapted the book or made this its own thing.

Particularly missed the reason for the actual title! In fact, the whole first act of the movie I was wondering how anyone who hadn't read the book would follow what was going on or understand why Ann was alone until she explained it.

Regardless, this film was a perfect candidate for a voice over opening where the book title could have at least been explained.
