I rolled my eyes when Loomis said that to Ann
Ha! Well...that was pretty much the reaction Ann gave too! 

On November 6, 2012 god blessed America...again. 

Are you white?

reply

Does that matter? Loomis was being ridiculous for suggesting that she liked him because they had skin colour in common.

It's not that far-fetched. In real life that's probably what would happen.

reply

Yes, it's not far-fetched at all. It's silly to imagine that Ann was just totally indifferent to the difference in skin color between Caleb and John, or somehow didn't notice.

reply

Not at all. The world of "Z for Zachariah" is post-apocalyptic, not post-racial.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I'm pretty sure the screenwriter borrowed the triangle material from the 1959 film The World, the Flesh and the Devil. In that movie (unlike the book), there is a black man and he does feel threatened by his white romantic rival. Unlike this movie, though, the three of them end up uniting as one.

Let me first preface this by saying I'm black Af lol but I think from lumis perspective it wasn't just about the skin color but I think a lot of times white people or people of fairer skin color are thought of as prettier or more handsome than darker people (of course not all the time) but lumis was probably feeling a little insecure I mean with calebs blue eyes an good hair an all so that's probably where that line "go be white together" came from. Just a place of insecurity that's all.
