Woah, what was up with that? The ending ruined the whole movie for me. But, at least his friend won't be lonely and will be with Helen and the baby.

IMO the ending was sad, but I don't think Albert would have managed to live the life he dreamed about. I doubt his plans would ever have come to fruition. So, much better for things to happen the way they did.

Read the book, it is the real ending the author wanted .... I think it was a brilliant movie. Will watch it again and again....

Agreed. It seemed like everything with the money and Helen getting taken care off didn't get tied up in a satisfying matter. Pretty much people got screwed over.

the ending was beautiful. Some good at least came out of an unwanted pregnancy and the prospect of the baby being taken from its mother, an abandoned woman facing slavery and the death of Albert. It was an ending full of hope.
