better than Remains of the Day
In comparing Nobbs to similar movies, I thought of Remains of the Day and thought this was better. The Anthony Hopkins characater in ROTD was just boring and you just sat there wondering when he was going to grow a set of balls and reveal his feelings toward Thompson. And then there was that stupid subplot about British Nazi sympathizers. In Nobbs you have genuine character interest and suspense: is he/she going to be discovered? Will he/she triumph in the end? The only sore point for me was that such a sensible person as Nobbs couldn't see through Helena's true personality.
There is no "off" position on the genius switch.
