why did they just handcuff and arrest him instantly he was clearly in peril and needed help they didnt give him a chance to explain the situation

Wouldn't he simply get away with it anyways after a thorough investigation finds that he didn't do any of it ...even the security tape was clearly edited and any real detective would realise this.
Nowadays they can even tell that even though his finger prints were on that screwdriver used to kill Corey ,they still can see that it wasn't him that did the killing from today's pretty interesting technology ...but even with all the technology it's pretty obvious he didn't do it

Exactly! Another obvious plothole. They didn't have time to sit in some back room and review hours of footage before entering the scene so the fact they didn't even let him talk and immediately labeled him the perpetrator was ridiculous.
