Interesting and fun dystopian dark comedy / horror drama

This does not cleanly fit a genre completely, but it's got enough humor that I would call it a dark satire, and it is also effective as a kind of horror - because the situation devolves into what you might expect under the circumstances. The notion is pretty intriguing, and the first half of the movie is interesting as you watch what life has become in the aftermath of a disaster that requires voluntary culling. The movie then has a pivot where the whole dynamic shifts.

There are some things about the way this film resolves its ending that I think could use some better editing, but overall I think it's an interesting and fun watch.

I'm halfway in and it does look like a fairly decent black mirror episode.

yeah, good call. I haven't seen the latest season but it is in line with Black Mirror.

As I mentioned in my own review, it actually indirectly challenges several movements that are plaguing our world as of this moment.

The Ukraine war - key word - enlisting - with big payouts for those who enlist (in Ukraine, the payout for the deceased is 400K USD)

Canada's euthanasia program - the director of the film is from Canada - Canada is now said to be the world's euthanasia capital - for the greater good ^^

Climate change - there are 'scientific' articles being printed these days which point out that human beings breathe out too much CO2, thus being part of the 'problem'.

I do think the very end could have been better - I'd want to see all characters end up dead, except for the little girl.
If nothing else, it would serve as a warning to the dear leaders and their enablers for pushing this BS onto the society.

PS. I'm not surprised to see this film being downvoted on most corporate review sites. I think this is a well made film, but it runs counter-narrative and that's generally not something the corporations would like to promote in the current climate.
