shareyes, basically the central theme that drives this movie is about missing out on getting laid in favour of indulging in nerdy things that (in the scheme of things) don't really matter (or at least don't let them take over your life completely like they did with Halliday). and also always be wary of your friends who may not be as unsure/unconfident as you and might have designs on the girl you like/dated and who will steal the girl you want from you
shareHuh that struck me as a little odd too. Not so much in the "get laid, nerds" way, but just to be that...decisive. Making-choices-for-other-people kind of thing...a little...draconian? His reality might be great, sure, but others might depend on the oasis for their reality, for socialization...maybe they're bed-ridden, socially awkward, hideous or something, who knows, but to deny the entire planet the service for two days a week is a pretty brassy move.
Sure, he kept it free of advertisements, but I wonder how many people would have voted to keep it open 24/7 WITH advertisements. Just seems to diminish the win some...especially for those who helped the guy. How'd you like to zero out your account to help someone who, one of the first things he does after he wins, decides that he'll decide when you get to play. I'd be pissed lol
Its a "got mine, so you must all do things like i do" message. In the end he turned out to be no better than the IOI guys. In fact id say - worse. At least they didnt pretend they were mortally righteous while ordering people's lives around.
shareIt's currently illegal to: have consensual incestuous sex, drive a car without a seatbelt, buy alcohol after 2-3 am, do drugs, have multiple wives or husbands,walk around nude despite being born that way, get tattoos under a certain age, have consensual sex with a prostitute, attempt suicide,etc.... society has always made regulations to protect people from themselves. I personally don't think there should be ANY laws that prevent someone from doing something that doesn't affect anyone else, but the world is and always has been this way.

What about people who tend to have more time to kill on Tuesdays and Thursdays than any other day of the week?
What about people with personality disorders that make it very difficult to communicate with girls?
Also, gaming is yet another form of escapism and far from the worst one.
Personally, I'm not a gamer. I relieve stress or escape from the harsh reality by following my favorite sports team and watching movies. But I see no difference between me and someone who plays video games all day.
It's a symptom of problems, not the problem itself.
And it's a far better symptom or measure than doing heroin or drinking yourself senseless.
You can't just tell them to "go out, meet people, get laid". There's a reason why they want to escape reality, why they became an addict. If you deprive them of their favorite game then you're opening up the opportunity for worse addictions or maybe immediate suicide.
