Seriously if it wasn't for the nostalgia this movie would be a complete mess. It's badly written and with uninteresting characters and a generic story.

i watched it for the collection of nostalgic characters it promised. i thought it was a little too cliched. then i tried vr a week later and started liking the film better. wish the movie spent more time on the vr aspect and showing off more of what it ahs to offer.

Except in saving private Ryan the war and fighting are a part of the plot and the movie wouldn’t work without it, the nostalgia in this is not essential

Would the film have any interest if instead of the back to the future car it was a random car? If instead of being Iron Giant vs Godzilla it was an unknown dragon vs a random robot?
The point is people were just excited to see in the movie characters they already know.
Equivalent characters but unknown and nobody would care about this movie.
The story is ludicrous, all characters are uninteresting and the entire movie is a total mess.
Even with the nostalgia this movie still sucks
