Did the studio think it would be a hit bc of Barbieheimer?

the 2 supporting actors from each film = Barbieheimer The Movie! (got to gross at least 500m right?)

I mean look at the poster, Emily is in a pink suit like Barbie and has blonde hair and is made up to look abit like Margot Robbie .. Ryan is in his Ken pose with blonde hair (I bet the studio wanted him to lose that beard though). Trailers emphasised the romance/banter between the leads (like Barbie)

Even had it starred Ryan with Margot Robbie (or Cillian with Margot) it wouldn't have done much better

This movie's budget was said to be $130m after tax credit according to Wikipedia, and "some have heard the production cost was even higher at $150 [million]", that is about the same as Barbie ($128–145 million), and higher than Oppenheimer ($100 million).

So yeah, I think that is indeed what they were going for.

reply

Probably yeah.

The lavish marketing campaign places this film north of $200M!
It will not make that back, even with streaming profits.
Best case it will break even.

reply

Over time it will make a profit from dvds, tv licenses and streaming.

reply

Not all do but yeah, Television Rights, Streaming, and VOD will be important for the studio here. They are probably already out there selling it globally.

reply

Probably. These are not box office stars. If they made this same movie back in the day with Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts it would have been a bell ringer. I can't even think of any contemporary stars to fill those slots. Big Star Hollywood ain't really a thing anymore.
