Dear God, you're not going to believe...

How fucking WOKE this pile of fucking garbage is going to be, believe me you'll see.

NBC have went massivly full on ticking the right casting woke boxes for this utter insult to the original magnificent series with Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell from the 80's/90's.

Watch this nonsense at your peril.

I'm Deckard B26354, I retire Wokies, I'm filed and monitored.

reply

(sigh) I guess you didn't watch the original because it was pretty "woke" too.

reply

The original touched on socially relevant topics quite a bit but as a whole it wasn't a woke show. If it were woke by today's standards then Sam Beckett would never have been a straight white guy and Al would not have been portrayed as the fun loving promiscuous womanizer that he was.

reply

I'm almost certain the original show would not be considered woke at all. Actually, maybe even anti woke because nowadays you have to go beyond just the "racism and sexism is wrong" message. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that but it always depends on the way these topics are handled. At the time, those messages hadn't been done to death as much. I'd say it was pretty progressive for the time. Quantum Leap doesn't seem to have a particular political side, although I'm pretty sure Sam leans more liberally. Nothing wrong with that at all (I'd say the same thing if he was conservative.)

reply

On the flipside, if they did have an Al type character as a fun loving womanizer in a mixed cast, by today's standards you would get comments like: "Ah the white middle age male is a womanizer, typical woke Hollywood casting." Same as Joey in friends probably couldn't be that today nor could Tony DiNozzo in NCIS either, be interesting though to see what the comments now would be like, I imagine both sides of it disliking it for different reasons.

reply

This is a good point (but not the one you think).

The original Quantum Leap looked at social issues and problems (and minority identities) on an almost weekly basis. Yet it didn't lecture the audience about the stance they ought to take on those issues or the solutions offered, somewhat conveniently, in the show.

Woke... is the absolute opposite to that. It is a relentless badgering of the audience on how they ought to perceive the world and how they ought to interpret solutions. You are told what to think. Told who is right and wrong. And told to accept it without further critical thought. Woke is a McDonald's happy meal when what you needed was a five course meal.

reply

Even worse, it was confirmed that Scott Bakula won't be returning in his role as Sam

reply

As a fan i feel cheated and i expect Bakula feels the same. Bakula has expressed interest in returning to this role for years and fans have been wanting that as well. They finally do a reboot and snub Bakula and the fans. I don't blame him for not wanting to return.

reply

He said he wouldn't want to star in a reboot unless Dean Stockwell returned, and since Dean Stockwell died, that possibility is now probably impossible. I don't know if there'd be a chance he'd make an appearance as a cameo since that would be different then reprising the role. Or he would change his mind and happily play Sam in some episodes if they let him. I've actually heard (read) some rumors that he'd be returning after all, despite a video confirming that he won't be in the remake (although that was 5 months ago and not everything on the internet can be trusted.) So it seems to be unclear.

Basically yeah, this was on Instagram by Scott 3 days ago (as I post this): www.instagram.com/p/Ciiwi_qvuS2/

In January, the pilot was sold and a script was sent to me because the character of Sam Beckett was in it, which makes sense, right? As so many of you have been asking me the last several months, “How could you do QL without Sam?"(or Al, for that matter) Well, I guess we’re about to find out.

That’s the story. As the show has always been near and dear to my heart, it was a very difficult decision to pass on the project, a decision that has upset and confused so many fans of the original series. However, the idea of anyone ‘leaping’ around in time and walking a mile in someone else’s shoes, remains a very appealing concept and so worthy of exploration, especially given the current state of mankind. In that spirit, I am crossing my fingers that this new cast and crew are lucky enough to tap into the magic that propelled the original Quantum Leap into the hearts and minds of generations past and present.

reply

Thanks for sharing that! As an Instagram user myself, I didn't even know Scott had an account. He's a good writer.

He's at least kind to wish the new show well.

reply

Yeah and I'll be giving it a fair go as the original creator Donald P. Bellisario is part of it as in:

Series Writing Credits:
Donald P. Bellisario ... (1 episode, 2022)
Steven Lilien ... (1 episode, 2022)
Bryan Wynbrandt ... (1 episode, 2022)

Plus you can tell they had Sam in it originally as for this as:

The character of "Herbert 'Magic' Williams" (played by Ernie Hudson) is the same character from the original series episode Quantum Leap: The Leap Home: Part 2 (Vietnam) - April 7, 1970 (aired: 1990) that Sam leaped into, then played by Christopher Kirby.

reply

Not sure what I'll do yet. I'm currently still on season 3 of the original show. Maybe when I finish. I'll see where I go from there. I try to be open minded but I'm skeptical of this reboot.

At least it was confirmed that the reboot did offer a script to Scott Bakula and I'm glad he stood by his word.

reply

To his credit, he did return in its always sunny.

reply

Oh boy.

reply

I bet the first episode involves traveling back in time to the Stonewall riots.

reply

Looks like there's going to be a piece of shit trans character. Fuck this show.

Oh NOES! It has a non-white person in the lead!

WAAAAH WAAAAHHH! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Little bigot bitches. You're such a hoot.

reply

The trailers are so exciting it definitely feels like a rope-a-dope. Rocket Ships! Rock Stars! Paratroopers! Hot babes! It's audience baiting so hard, it's definitely a lie. Every time this kind of thing happens, it's always the switcheroo. But like others mentioned, this is the kind of show that should be woke.

reply

I rest my case.

reply

If by "woke," you mean involving people and issues you'd rather pretend didn't exist, then yes, it is super "woke..."
Yall right wingnuts need to stop treating anyone different from "the chosen people" as freaks of nature... At this point, YOU people are becoming less common, thus you're just pissed that they're not doing episodes that glorify the straight, white, wealthy republican male... Sorry, not sorry.
If this angers you so much, go away and saturate yourself with your own white supremacist media and leave us civilized people alone...

reply

Well apparently there aren't many of you "civilized" people if crime stats, BLM riots, and revenue for woke media is anything to go by.

reply

Deckard B26354, I like your style. Your dogged pursuit of Wokies is commendable. They are a scourge on God's green earth. May you retire every single last one of them.
I salute you.

Also, 100% agree with your comment.
