The most straight white male movie I've ever seen

This is the type of movie that would ONLY get made by white people. What exactly is the premise of this movie? A kid has a mean stepdad and then gets a job with a dude in town? Is that really it? I cannot believe this was written, pitched, greenlit, funded and released with an all-star cast. There is literally nothing interesting about the main character or the world he lives in. It's profoundly bland. I can't believe this is considered entertainment.

Grown men openly ogling young women's bodies and teaching children to do it too? Making inappropriate comments to the one female coworker? A white kid doing some of the worst dance moves in history then getting roaring applause in spite of the fact he just ruined the party? Seriously? What non-straight white man would think any of this is entertaining?

The world of this movie relies on the subtext that white people are entitled to being championed, that white men can do whatever they want without consequence, and that no matter how boring a character is, if he's a white male he's deserving of having an entire movie made about his life.

There are so many interesting people and stories in this world and movies like this just make it so clearly obvious who's in charge in the entertainment industry. Hopefully the industry has made progress since this came out because this movie truly sucks.

I liked the movie.

Do you hate white males?

I thought the movie was great. I think you might be trolling because the race of the character had nothing to do with the film. It was a simple coming of age comedy/drama that was excellently acted by a talented cast. Rockwell, Collette, Janey and Carell in particular were all in top form.

You asked what non-straight white man would think any of this is entertaining. This one does.

I think you’re just being a bit silly. Fair enough if you didn’t enjoy the movie but to make your argument that there was some racial subtext behind it all borders on the ridiculous.
