It's not woke, it's patriotism

I read some posts about the movie being woke because of the ethnic diversity of the pilots in the film. It's a nonsense. These arguments express a lack of understanding of this type of film. Also, they don't understand what's a real woke/progressive film.

Let start by saying that color and gender didn't play any role in the movie. There are no racial or gender tensions between the crew. You can make them all blacks or whites and you wouldn't feel the difference. They laugh, fight and tease each other regardless of their ethnic and sex identity, especially noticeable in the interactions between them in the bar. Equally important, you don't see any special effort to make the non-white with more moral grounds than the others characters, as we seen in many woke films.

So we already seen big difference between woke film and this one:

1. Absence of superficial dichotomy between black/female/non-white and white males.
2. No racial or gender tensions.
3. The emphasis is on the character traits and not the characters identity.
4. Lack of criticism of the United States.
5. The emphasis is on the story - not ideological.

So what is the aimed of ethnic diversity in the film? The answer is celebrate America as a nation and their people. Top Gun is a patriotic movie, and one of the goals of the film is to illustrate the power of the nation to achieve impossible things. It's very common in films at this genre, who depicted a nation recruiting for a specific cause, showing the power of the people in the nation. We seen similar things in other patriotic films like Independence Day, Armageddon and the first Top Gun. The rational is to give the entire American nation a sense that they are part of the experience of being an American - not white, black, female, male or whatever. It's melting pot, no identity politics.
