That’s often a problem sign ! Actors, directors or producers that finance their own projects often end up a financial loss.

I don’t see this appealing to anyone under 35. Despite that it’s “deemed great” in Cannes doesn’t translate into a hit.

This is streaming for me at best.

So... when making Dances with wolves, Costner spent 3 million dollars in order to finish the film.

If you learn about how that film was made, it's an incredible story - surreal, in many ways.

In other words, that's not necessarily a problem sign, at least in Costner's case.

But yes - he had an idea for this film a long time ago, in late 80's - he planned for one film. Over time, his idea kept blowing up and now it's at 4 films - that's a problem sign for me.

It's like Cameron's Avatar BS -

Beats handing it over to the ex-wife I guess.

Could that be the reason he's made these back to back movies? To drain his money so not to hand over half his fortune to his ex wife? Like damn I need to get rid of like 50m , I know I'll pour it into this big western saga I been wanting to make but never thought I'd be able to do, but I could if I pour a load of my own money in ..

Its not unlikely that he needs to share the profits, if any, with his ex wife!

a valid theory.... though, in hollywood money laundering machine, you can claim that a shitty film cost you 300 million to make, by inflating the cost of each chair by a thousand fold. So.... I don't see why he decided to extend this to 4 films, given that his initial idea was for a single film, rather than a 4-parter.
