There are a lot of sad, weak-minded people who crave the simple, superficial so-called "unconditional love" a pet can offer. Of these, the dog lovers are the most superficial. At least a cat makes you work a little for it. Dogs are pushovers. Give one the scraps off your dinner plate just once and it's loyal to you for life.
